The S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is a constituent unit of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, India’s premier non-profit that has for over seven decades worked in the cause of education and for preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage.
The Bhavan was founded in 1938 by Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshi, an accomplished lawyer, constitutional expert, author and India’s agriculture minister who launched the Vanmahotsava initiative in 1950 for ecological conservation. Vanmahotsav is now a week-long festival of tree planting celebrated every year in the month of July across India.
Dr.Munshi founded the Bhavan with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi and the active support of several eminent leaders like Sardar Patel, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Shri C. Rajagopalachari, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and many other scholars and eminent professionals. The Bhavan is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950.
The Bhavan today has grown to have 120 kendras and units, eight overseas centres and 395 institutions with as many as 2,20,000 students on the rolls, an indication of the growth and widespread support and goodwill it has enjoyed over its 75 years of public service.
